World Premiere: Awake Asleep

On March 30th, 2025, Canadian soprano Katherine Whyte gave the World Premiere of an unaccompanied song composed by David Jaeger, titled Awake Asleep, a setting of a poem by David Cameron. Her recital took place at the Hamilton Conservatory of the Arts.

Katherine Whyte has been praised for her “keen artistic sensibility” (Opera Today) and “glamorous, vibrato-rich voice” (San Francisco Classical Voice). She made her Metropolitan Opera debut in Die A.gyptische Helena and has since returned for roles including Brigitta (lolanta), Countess Ceprano (Rigoletto), and Blumenmadchen (Parsifal).

Notable operatic engagements include the title role in Iphigenie en Tauride and Iris in Semele with the Canadian Opera Company, Gilda (Rigoletto) with English National Opera, Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) with Vancouver Opera and Opera Hong Kong, and Pamina (Die Zauberflote) with Michigan Opera Theatre. Upcoming performances include Aminta (Il re pastore) with Orpheus PDX, Countess Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro) with lntermountain Opera Bozeman, and Fiordiligi (Cosi fan tutte) with Opera Grand Rapids.
